M&S Systems' Debuts New AirVac Red and Platinum Series Central Vacuums
CARLSBAD,CA - 12/1/2005 - M&S Systems will unveil the next generation of AirVac central vacuum systems at the 2006 International Builders'
Show, Linear booth #W3877, in January. Both the AirVac Red Series bagless and Platinum Series are designed to offer homeowners more choices and greater
satisfaction while increasing builder profits.
The new AirVac Red Series bagless central vacuum system replaces the existing Red Series and offers an extended five-year warranty. The new Platinum AirVac
is a disposable bag central vacuum system offering an extended ten-year warranty. It replaces the Gold Series.
Both AirVac systems are designed to meet homeowner needs in all price categories and provide an upgrade solution for existing vacuum customers. With four
models each in both the Platinum and Red Series, consumers can choose either bagged or bagless systems for homes ranging from 3,000 to 12,000 square feet.
The AirVac systems' modular, nested components reduce storage space and shipping costs - and simplify handling, installation and service. Both systems use
updated AirVac tool kits and accessories so there's no need for replacement kits.
The AirVacs' sleek, new modular design houses a more powerful, yet efficient motor that lowers operating costs and reduces allergy-causing agents as well
as noise. To protect your from dirt, dust, dust mites, pet dander and other pollutants, AirVac utilizes HEPA air filtration bags within the power unit. This
power unit is generally located away from living areas keeping them pollution free. Both the EPA and the National Lung Association call this a definite
health benefit. Bottom access to an ergonomic bucket design makes it easier to remove collected home debris.

M&S Systems celebrates 50 years as industry leader in built-in, electronic home amenities
DALLAS, Texas – Feb. 17, 2003 - Feb. 17 – 1953 was
only 50 years ago but it seems like another world . . . .
Dwight D. Eisenhower moved into the White House. Jonas Salk invented the polio vaccine. Saran Wrap,
instant iced tea and Kellogg's Sugar Smacks hit grocery store shelves for the first time. Auto mechanics earned $2.00 an hour. A new Ford Custom Victoria two-door
hardtop cost less than $2,000 and the gasoline to make it go was 29¢ a gallon. And a Coca-Cola cost a nickel.
the beginning
1953 also marked the end of
what was officially known as the Korean War. One of the returning veterans was 31-year-old Captain Harold J. (Jim) Lemmon. He had an idea that he thought he could
turn into a business, an idea that involved radio: a built-in radio/intercom system for homes. This audio pioneer called the fledgling company he founded on
March 16, 1953 Music & Sound – later shortened to M&S.
"The technology of 1953 meant a vacuum tube radio bought from a local distributor and modified to fit
into the wall with internal wiring to the speakers and an on/off switch. There were no volume controls. No FM radio. No intercom. Just a built-into-the-wall radio
with five room speakers. All this for $89.50 installed," Lemmon remembers.
Two years later he came up with $10,000 – half of it borrowed – to incorporate M&S.
Building the business meant traveling the country – up to two months at a time – to train distributors in sales and installation. His success brought competition.
In the late 1950s heavy hitters such as General Electric, Progress Lighting and Rittenhouse – companies with national distribution – as well as a host of building
product companies entered the market. But Lemmon kept expanding his regional market, building strong bonds with the growing M&S distributor base.
This worked:
Competitive pricing and, more important, personal contact and a strong commitment to service gave M&S an edge. The competition began to fade. By the late 70s, more
than 20 competitors had been reduced to only 2. Meanwhile, Lemmon continued to add innovations to his built-in package: door chimes and an intercom that worked
room-to- room as well as to the front door.
Later the M&S concept would be expanded to encompass FM radio, audiocassettes, music CDs and home theater. "And
as long as we were installing in houses under construction, why not a built-in vacuum system? So we added this product line by acquiring a few small vacuum companies
and then cherry-picked the best of each acquisition to create the M&S AirVac system," says Lemmon.
The growing success of M&S Systems also brought suitors.
In 1982, Lemmon sold his company to Nortek but stayed as president until 1987.
a classic success story
"M&S is a classic American success story. Someone
with just an idea takes $10,000 in capitalization and, with hard work, turns it into a multimillion-dollar business. We never paid dividends. The money was always
reinvested in the company. And if a customer was unhappy for whatever reason, we found a way to make it right – promptly – a tradition that's still honored at M&S,"
Lemmon smiles with satisfaction.
Today that tradition – and the company Jim Lemmon founded – is celebrating a half century as the industry leader in built-in,
electronic home amenities. To commemorate this remarkable milestone, M&S will offer a number of special promotions throughout the year.
still pioneering
M&S Systems, still headquartered in Dallas, Texas – is now owned by Chamberlain Industries. And M&S is still renowned for applying technology, style and
value to its diverse line of products that help enrich the enjoyment of the home, including analog and digital musical communication systems, home theater
surround sound systems, structured wiring and central vacuum systems. M&S musical systems have come a long way - from vacuum tube radios to digital whole-house
audio networks complete with MP3 capability, music storage databases, and intercom functionality. Systems have progressed from a single master unit controlling
music throughout the home to individual room stations having the capability to control their own music sources and expanded features.
"Today people want their
homes equipped with the built-in technologies to make their home lives as convenient and enjoyable as possible," says Tyler Dawson, general manager of M&S. "That's
where M&S Systems comes in. We have the technology and experience to meet this demand – with everything from built-in vacuum systems to home intercoms, from home
entertainment to structured wiring."
All this has made M&S Systems a pioneer in built-in electrical home amenity products. But Dawson views the company's
50th anniversary as less of a milestone and more of a springboard to the future.
"Looking back with pride at our history is good – and well-deserved,"
says Dawson. "But we prefer to think of this as a time to recommit ourselves to our distributors, to our customers and to the next 50 years. We promise them our
continued commitment to service and to the innovative application of built-in electronic home amenities. Whatever you want from your home – efficiency, security
or entertainment – M&S will remain your preeminent source of built-in satisfaction."

M&S Systems unveils ZV3500 Gold Series Bagless Central Vacuum System
DALLAS, Texas – July 26, 2002 – A man's home is his castle? Not to dust.
"Today's homes are built tighter than ever to conserve energy. But the trade-off is poor ventilation, which adds significantly to indoor pollutants," says Gary Baker, M&S director of marketing.
He
points to an EPA study, which shows the typical six-room house collects 40 pounds of dust a year ("although many parents believe their kids could contribute that in
a week," Baker adds). "And that doesn't include dust mites, fungi, molds or any other allergen that contaminates both home and lungs. In fact, EPA studies conclude
with a scary statistic: Being inside your home exposes you to 3 to 5 times the pollutant levels you would face when outdoors – and you spend 65 percent of your time
indoors – 90 percent in winter!"
The easiest way to minimize your customers' exposure to the pollutants in their own homes is to eliminate them with a
central vacuum system, which delivers two to three times more power to lift out dirt, dust mites and animal dander from rugs, drapes and furniture upholstery.
AirVac then vents it all outside – safely, quietly, permanently to eliminate this proven health risk.
"That's why M&S Systems is introducing the ZV3500 –
the newest and most convenient version of the M&S Gold Series AirVac line of central vacuum systems," says Lia Connors, M&S product specialist. She points out
that no traditional vacuum cleaner can match the cleaning power of a central vacuum system.
a filter to protect people
"The filter of any traditional
vacuum is designed to protect the motor – not people – from dust. Our AirVac is designed to protect the home's inhabitants," Connors adds. The ultimate in dust
protection is the M&S Gold Series, the most advanced central vacuum system.
"When selling your customers on an easy-to-install M&S central AirVac system,
you're providing them with more than a dust-free home environment. You're offering them a full menu of persuasive reasons to buy the ZV3500," says Baker.
Connors
points to the "convenience of never having to replace a disposable bag. Longer carpet and furniture life. The versatility of easy-to-change accessories for cleaning
all home surfaces: carpet, rugs, upholstery, drapes, floors, mini-blinds – even the insides of cars. A quieter home because the compact central unit is located
outside the living area to reduce noise. And the peace of mind that comes with the M&S AirVac Gold Series' unique, 10-year, no- fault warranty."
The ZV3500
also offers soft-start motor control to reduce wear on the motor brushes and a noise-reducing exhaust muffler for ultra-quiet vacuuming. Like all M&S Gold Series
AirVacs, the ZV3500 filters out dust particles as small as 0.1 microns. High-tech "smart" features – an electronic LED light on the power unit to tell you when the
power is on, the motor needs servicing and the six-gallon receptacle needs emptying – are standard. The ZV3500 can be combined with the extensive line of AirVac
accessories to deliver the ultimate in central vacuum systems.
